Though the season has been open long enough for NJ sea bass to be somewhat overfished, sea bass reports continue to be glowing. Capt. Mark DeBlasio said his Water Proof enjoyed such a savage bite today that they had a boat limit by 7:15.

The Golden Eagle from Belmar had lots of limits as clams proved to be most effective.

The Fishermen from Atlantic Highlands had fine drifting conditions during a beautiful day which produced sea bass up to a 4-pound pool winner.

The fine weather continues with southwest winds at 5 knots before increasing to south at 10-15 plus gusts to 20 in the afternoon.

Capt. Hans Kaspersetz had a limit of sea bass on Water Proof before tagging others for the Grey Tag program.

  1. Hey Al,

A few weeks back I was casting black Bombers in the central NJ Brick area surf and kept landing nice bass and some blues, but kept getting small tapped. It felt like weakfish to me, so I slowed down my presentation and then luck shined upon me. I landed 2 weakfish that taped out at 33 and 34 inches long, most likely both over 10 pounds, maybe even up to 12 pounds! I also jumped off a few more as the hooks were huge for their weak mouths. I can’t remember when 10-pound plus weakies were caught in the surf north of Cape May, must be like 15 years or more? And two tiderunners in two nights! Same spot, same tide. Both fish were in the water line and released within 35 seconds of when they left the water to back into the water, slapping their tails at me upon release. I pride myself on the quickest release possible on any fish, and my camera is always on at the ready to shoot within seconds to insure the fast release of fish. I would’ve loved to take a million photos of these fish, but one will do to protect the fish.
