The big one for saltwater anglers, the Saltwater Fishing Expo, is coming up from March 13-15 in the N.J. Convention Hall at Edison. As always, all of the big national fishing tackle manufactures will have full displays , along with many local firms. There will be a full slate of seminars, though I will only be there on Saturday, March 14 with a program on big stripers and the usual Tady Lure giveaway to everyone attending the seminar.  I’ll have a lot more on this event as it gets closer.

Striped bass fishing is off to a slow start, but Grumpy’s Tackle in Seaside Park reports some are being caught on both sides of the bay with bloodworms and various small lures including swimmers. A few keepers may be among them.

The Ocean Explorer from Belmar expects a nice day tomorrow, and will be sailing for cod. Though it’s windy as this being written, the morning forecast is down to northwest at 10-15 knots with gusts to 25 before switching to west at just 5-10 knots in the afternoon.

  1. As being out on the water yesterday and going out to 17 fathoms. We noticed a lot of bird life moving towards the bay. It was also a lot of bird life out at 17. What they were feeding on or what they were flying over is hard to tell there were also a few gannets that we saw. So things are changing rather rapidly. The water temperature was 46 degrees yesterday that’s a jump of three degrees in the last week and a half. Along with the catch of c o d. That we made. There were only a couple of Throwbacks. We were hoping to see some other species of fish takeover we tried the bottom for a ling we caught a couple that was it. We also had a few small black fish which way through back. All in all things are changing with the weather and the season. It should only get better from this point on keep our fingers crossed that we have a good spring. Always thinking of you Al. And I will be at the show on Friday I can’t make the Saturday show too crowded for me LOL always keep well Al
