Tuesday’s gale warning probably kept almost everyone off the water today, but should also turn them back on again tomorrow.

Capt. Ron Santee said it started slowly Monday on his Fishermen from Atlantic Highlands. but ended up with hot action with mostly slot bass.

The Queen Mary boats from Pt. Pleasant got into hot nearby bass on Monday as the high hook caught 8 up to 42 inches.

The forecast for NY/NJ Bight is for more of the fishable for large boats west winds at 20-25 knots plus gusts to 30.

The Golden Eagle from Belmar will provide a free trip to the fiirst five vets each day this week, though Tuesday is a blowout.

After a tough day with non-biting bass, it was back to normal again for the Fishermen out of Atlantic Highlands.

The forecast scared some off, but it was very fishable.

After a week of hot action on his Fishermen from Atlantic Highlands, Capt. Ron Santee of the Fishermen out of Atlantic Highlands found mostly fussy bass today even during the afternoon change of tide. The boat ended up with a dozen bass which was well short of what was spotted in bass among lots of bait.

On the other hand, Capt. George Steller trolled lots of stripers feeding on sand eels off the Highlands Bridge from the small Chrisdel as they hit small lures steadily. Capt. Chris De Stefano was part of the crew, and noted there were other good catches being made further south — including a striper blitz for surfcasters at IBSP.

The forecast is for SE winds at 15=20 knots plus gusts to 25 and afternoon rain.

The Golden Eagle from Belmar reported a good charter trip with plenty of keeper stripers along with many overs that were released.

The forecast is for west winds at 10-15 knots plus gusts to 20 before dropping to 10 in the afternoon.

Nick Honachefsky cast a black Bomber into the surf at 5 a.m. to release this bass.

Capt. Ron Santee started the day with his Fishermen out of Atlantic Highlands in calm waters and breaking stripers — and ended with the same action in rough waters and even better results.

The NY/NJ Bight forecast is for southwest winds at 15-20 knots before increasing to 20-30 in the afternoon.

Though I never heard of any spring run of Atlantic mackerel in NY//NJ Bight. this year, they must have been nearby as tinker mackerel have suddenly appeared.

Betty & Nick’s in Seaside Park: reported those young of the year mackerel are luring stripers closer to shore for anglers frustrated at watching others hit schools of large bunkers outside the bar.

NYC Capt. John McMurray reported the small Atlantic mackerel in his area — and I’m sure he knows the difference between them and chub mackerel.

Striped bass boat fishing held up today. Capt. Ron Santee ran his Fishermen from Atlantic Highlands to where he left them yesterday, but the bite didn’t hold up and he made a run that got him into a hot bite as the wind came on and it got nasty. He emphasized that it will be rough again tomorrow — but that’s what turns on the bass — and where he’ll be!

There is a storm warning tonight into the morning when it drops to northwest at 25-30 knots.

Vinny D’Anton released a 26-inch striper in the Monmouth County surf yesterday evening, but the first real showing of bass didn’t occur until mid-morning today as anglers picked at bass from 25 to 35 inches on poppers. Surprisingly, the forage was small mackerel.

The striper bite held up today as Capt. Ron Santee reported a keeper for all among many releases. Today’s bass were stuffed with small bunker, and shads worked best on the Fishermen from Atlantic Highlands. Tomorrow is the skipper’s 67th, and he’s looking forward to a nice day with good fishing conditions from the west.

There was lots of good news in NY/NJ Bight as striped bass were not only abundant but also generally aggressive

Dave Lilly got together with Bryan Martell as they trolled near Breezy Point where they never were able to get the second rod out. Lilly said there were no shorts, but all keepers and overs though nothing huge. Lilly used a rig he developed in the spring. They saw only an occasional swirl, and there was no bird action before they came back for breakfast.

The Golden Eagle from Belmar reported a 1 1/2-hour first drift as bass were on top and bottom hitting diamond jigs.

The Fishermen from Atlantic Highlands had a similar report of both plain and tubed jigs on mostly overs, but with some keepers mixed in.Diamond jigs were best, but shads produced a few bass. Capt. Ron Santee was amazed to see very clear waters after the long period of big seas.

The forecast is for south winds at just 5-10 knots before increasing to 15 plus higher gusts in the afternoon.
