Capt. Ron Santee had a great time on his birthday today aboard his Fishermen from Atlantic Highlands as stripers gorged on small bunkers and chads that were cast to them. There were plenty of keepers among the overs.
The Golden Eagle from Belmar also reported getting into schools of stripers right away, though they responded best to diamond jigs with tubes,
Vinny D’Anton released a 26-inch striper in the Monmouth County surf yesterday evening, but the first real showing of bass didn’t occur until mid-morning today as anglers picked at bass from 25 to 35 inches on poppers. Surprisingly, the forage was small mackerel.
The forecast is for southwest winds at 15-20 knots plus gusts to 25.
