NJ surf rough, but stripers active

It’s whitewater fishing, but those who work at it are picking decent-sized stripers from the Monmouth County surf. Some mornings there are sightings of bass chasing mullet, but they don’t alays hit.

Vinny D’Anton warns that it can be dangerous if you get too close to the surf line with the backwash from big waves which can sweep you off your feet. Even worse, Vinny yesterday had to rescue a friend who get sucked into a sink-hole well back from the breakers.

The Big Mohawk from Belmar will be a witching to bottom fishing at 7 a.m. on 10/1.

A s small craft advisory is up. The forecast for tomorrow is for more northeast winds at 15-20 knots plus gusts to 25 — and seas up to 8 feet.
